ONE lane remains closed and slow traffic is being reported due to a campervan fire and broken down vehicle on the M6 northbound today, Friday.
The blaze occurred shortly before 10.30am between junction 18 for Middlewich and Holmes Chapel and junction 19 for Knutsford.
At the time, two lanes were closed to allow emergency services to attend the scene, causing seven miles of slow traffic.
Three fire engines from Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and Lymm were dispatched to the blaze, and firefighters found the vehicle to be well alight on arrival.
They cordoned off the first two lanes of the motorway while two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a jet to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters damped down the campervan to make it safe and used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperatures of three gas cylinders that were removed from the vehicle.
No-one is believed to have been injured as a result of the fire.
Firefighters were in attendance for approximately one hour and 45 minutes, before handing the incident over to Highways England.
