CREATIVE children let their imaginations run riot as they were challenged to bake a cake to celebrate Roald Dahl's birthday.

All sorts of weird and wonderful designs were entered into a fun competition at Darnhall Primary School in Winsford.

The author's own words 'scrumdiddlyumptious' and 'splendiferous' are the ideal ways to describe their amazing inventions.

Headteacher Sarah Tomlinson said: "We wanted to think of creative ways to celebrate Roald Dahl's birthday. The pressure of dressing up every year is very costly.

"The children really enjoyed it. The voting has gone crazy. One cake has more than 800 votes!

"They are all spectacular from the most elaborate family efforts to the very much child made squishy cup cake.

"We wanted to encourage families to do something together.
