KNUTSFORD’S Mayor and Mayoress are putting their pedal power to the test on Saturday by cycling around the whole of Cheshire East.

Cllr Andrew Malloy and his wife Nicole aim to cover more than 100 miles in the day in a circuit of the area, and raise £2,000 for the Mayor’s charities.

The cycle tour is a key part of Cllr Malloy’s theme for his year in office of promoting and supporting healthy living and leisure activities for the youth of Knutsford.

His aim is to encourage and support physical activity, whether that be walking, running, cycling, swimming, football, tennis, cricket or anything else.

Cllr Malloy also aims to establish a starter fund for a skate park, and thanked Tatton Group, Bruntwood and Bikes’N’Gear for sponsoring his cycling jersey and supporting the event.

He said: “I’m looking forward to touring the borough with like-minded cyclists, including Cheshire East’s Cycling and Walking Champion Suzie Akers-Smith, promoting an active lifestyle, and hopefully improving the image of cycling for all to try.

“We all need to try our best to get out of our cars when we can, as our roads become more congested.

“If you’d like to join us for part of the ride, please get in touch. It will also be great to see strengthen links with many towns and villages across the borough.”

The Mayor will pass through the following towns and villages on Saturday at the approximate times below.

Where possible he will be greeted by the Town Mayor, chairman or a local councillor.

If you are in the area please come out and wave him and his fellow riders on as they go past.
