AN Ellesmere Port man has pleaded guilty to possessing thousands of indecent images of children, including hundreds in the worst category.

Ian McLelland, 46, of Naylor Road, entered guilty pleas to all charges at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, September 13.

Prosecuting, Hannah Scott said one of the indecent images discovered in McLelland's possession involved an infant who was "a matter of several weeks old" and was "described as extremely disturbing".

McLelland possessed 932 indecent images and videos at the worst category – category A; 628 indecent images and videos at category B and 2,824 at category C.

He also admitted possessing 65 prohibited images of children, possessing 10 extreme pornographic videos involving live animals, and of distributing 12 category C images of a child via Skype.

Both prosecution and defence agreed the case was too serious to be sentenced by magistrates and the case has been listed for sentencing at Chester Crown Court on October 11.

A pre-sentence report was requested and McLelland was released on unconditional bail pending sentence.
