MEMBERS of the Eagle RUFC Touch Team have shown their support for Prostate Cancer UK, by raising £100 from their weekly subscriptions.

Several of the touch rugby league squad are also supporting fellow team mate Martin McNicholas by attempting the Clock2Gate 22 miles charity walk on September 22.

Starting at the Eastgate Clock in Chester they will finish the walk at the Golden Gates.

Organiser Raymond Fleming said: “The Sankey and Penketh touch rugby sessions are set up with a purpose, so they are fully accessible for a broad age range, male or female, and more so, regardless of ability.

"We have players from 14 years to 74 years and the sessions are for anyone who wants to have fun, lose a few pounds or are just looking to have fun with their teenage children or grandchildren.

"For many women it is the first time that they have had the opportunity to get involved in playing rugby.

"The community rugby union club has been in place for 57 years and we are all enjoying the crossover into rugby league with the format of the sessions. The weekly sessions attract 20 to 50 players and we have recently taken a mixed team into a national rugby league touch tournament and won six out of seven games.”

The popular sessions are held on a Saturday morning on Thornton Road from 9.30am to 10.30am and weekly floodlight sessions are held on a Wednesday 7pm to 8pm on grass.
