TATTON Park Race for Life entrants are being urged to make their cash count.

Cancer Research UK Race for Life in Cheshire is now urging participants, which for the first time included men this year, to return their sponsorship money as soon as possible.

A total of 4,736 people took part in Tatton Park Pretty Muddy, 5k and 10k events this year, and it is hoped they will raise £300,000. To date £240,137 has been returned.

To further encourage participants to return their sponsorship cash, display boards have been put up in Cheshire, explaining what Race for Life fundraising can buy and acting as a reminder that even the smallest amounts can make a huge difference to Cancer Research UK’s work.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is a series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.

Laura Cass, Cancer Research UK’s Cheshire Event Manager, said: “It was a fantastic event with an inspirational atmosphere. It was great to see so many men, women and children taking part.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their life, but more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.

Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Laura added: “Every day 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the north west.

“To make a significant difference in the fight against cancer we need everyone to return their sponsorship money as quickly as possible.”

Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend over £28 million last year in the north west on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research.
