NOT only is Birchwood Community High School (BCHS) welcoming a new cohort of students this academic year, but also a new head teacher.
Emma Mills, 38, who is settling into her new role at the Brock Road secondary school, is determined to uphold the progress made.
She said: "I feel extremely proud and very lucky to be headteacher at BCHS.
"It is a very special school that appealed to me straight away, and one of the main reasons for that was the sense of community and purpose that permeates the buildings.
"The governors are welcoming, knowledgeable and dedicated; the staff are passionate, kind and committed; the students are polite, conscientious and well, just lovely!
"I felt right at home as soon as I arrived and I know that Team Birchwood is going to achieve great things over the coming years!"
Emma has joined Birchwood after being the sole deputy head teacher at Lymm High School.
Before this, Emma started teaching English at a school in Manchester and soon became a head of house, key stage four coordinator and assistant head of the English faculty.
After moving to another school after five years, she was promoted to assistant head teacher and deputy head.
Moira Bryan, Birchwood's previous head teacher has now retired.
