Detectives still believe the community holds the key to identifying those responsible and are encouraging people to come forward with any information they have regarding Mark or who was near to Station Road during those times.

Detective inspector Sarah Oliver, of Cheshire Police’s major investigation team, said: “I hope today’s arrest reassures the public that we will not rest until we have found those responsible for Mark’s murder.

“While this man remains in custody to be questioned I am still appealing to the community to get in touch if they knew Mark or were in the area of Station Road through the weekend after 1 August.

“I know people may sometimes worry about speaking to the police, but there are other ways of helping us, such as through the Crimestoppers charity with which you can give information anonymously.”

Patrols will be in the area over the next few days following today’s arrest, and the community is encouraged to speak to officers if they have any concerns.
