A WINSFORD landmark is opening its doors to the public as part of the 25th year of Heritage Open Days.

The Brunner Guildhall will give various groups and organisations the chance to showcase their work and also to demonstrate how this historic building could be used in the future as a base for local groups.

The open days on September 14 and 15 will also focus on the heritage of the building and the town.

Winsford mayor Cllr Ailsa Gaskill-Jones said: “We organised the John Brunner day a few weeks ago and that was a great success with many local and not so local people visiting the building.

“We are now looking to build on that success as part of the Salt Fair and as part of the Heritage Open Days' initiative by encouraging anyone who has either used the building in the past or wants to use it in the future to try it for size, so to speak.

“I ask anyone who is interested in the building to come along on Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 154 and see the building. We will also be welcoming comments and ideas about our ongoing renovation work on the building.”

Winsford Town Council is currently seeking further funding to continue to develop its project designed to secure funding from various sources to modernise and repair the Guildhall.

Town Clerk Mark Bailey said: "We plan to open the building to the public as often as possible so as many people can see it and comment on its future.

"We carried out an extensive consultation exercise last year using a grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund and we are currently working with the fund again in working towards a bid to the National Heritage Lottery Fund.”

Any groups, organisations or individuals interested in taking part in the Heritage Open Days can contact the Town Council on mail@winsford.gov.uk or call 01606 593582.

The Mayor said: "We have already got a few local groups interested in coming along, but more the merrier – the Guildhall is the jewel in Winsford’s crown and we want to see it brought back to its former glories.

"We will also be organising an event on Saturday, November 2 commemorating 120 years since the Guildhall was first opened."
