A CHAMPION grower is celebrating after scoring a hat trick at Over Allotment's annual vegetable and flower show.

Jim Weedall won all three trophies in the vegetable section.

More than 200 exhibits were entered by allotment holders in 43 classes of vegetables and flowers.

Mike Allen, chairman of Over Allotments Association, said: "It was a clean sweep for Jim Weedall, winning all three of the trophies in the vegetable classes.

"Jim is an outstanding grower and regularly wins trophies at major shows across the UK.

"We're honoured to have him as one of our members and we never fail to be impressed by the quality of veg he grows on his plot here.

"Some of our members are hot on Jim's heels and judging by the quality of their veg on show this year he's going to have to work extra hard next year if he wants to hold on to the cups!"

Jim Weedall won the Over Allotments Cup for best in show for his prize onions.

The Hamlett Cup, awarded for the best collection of vegetables, first awarded in 1928, was also presented to him.

The Geoffrey Harrison Trophy, awarded to the overall winner was Jim's third accolade. Roy Farrell came second and Tina McLeod was in third place.

Mary Simpson won the Co-operative Funeralcare Vase for the best floral exhibit.

National Vegetable Society judge George Cornes judged the exhibits.

The top three winners in each category received Wilko vouchers.
