STUDENTS from Winsford Academy have exceeded national expectations after achieving fantastic GCSE results.

Results day is always a nerve-wracking time for pupils, but it was smiles as far as the eye could see as students tore open their envelopes.

And staff added that the academy was proud to continue its significant and sustained rate of improvement over a three-year trend.

Academy Principal Amanda Harrison said: “We are delighted at the performance of the class of 2019, as pupils have yet again achieved strong qualifications to help build their future pathways.

“The number of students achieving nine top grades is particularly pleasing and has improved again this year, with our higher ability students exceeding national expectations.

“Furthermore, the progress of our most disadvantaged pupils has also improved thanks to the dedication and commitment of our staff and governors.

“Students have performed exceptionally well, with many students putting in very strong performances, so we would like to congratulate them all.”

Peter Rubery, CEO at Fallibroome Trust who operate the academy, added that the excellent results reflect the hard work of a terrific group of students, thanks to expert guidance from their teachers.

Among the students who are celebrating their fantastic results is Ellie Ode, who achieved the highest results across the whole year group.

“I got 9 in Art and Design, 8s in Maths, Geography and English Literature, and 7s in Music, Physics and English Language,” she said.

“I’m absolutely made up to have done the best in the year, especially as I didn’t think I’d done as well in Maths and Physics.”

Also performing better than they expected were Taylor Hatton and Liam Hickey, who along with Ellie, are planning to continue their education at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College next month.
