The family of a Glasgow girl who took her own life as a result of an abusive relationship are suing her ex-boyfriend.
Tragic Emily Drouet was found dead in March 2016, just days after Angus Milligan admitted choking and slapping her.
The 18-year-old Aberdeen University student from Glasgow suffered relentless text messaging at the hands of Milligan, and was threatened and abused with offensive, indecent, obscene and menacing messages.
Her family was dismayed when he was spared jail in 2017, and given a 240-hour community payback order, reduced to 180 hours in recognition of his guilty plea, as well as 12 months' supervision.
Now, Emily's family are suing Milligan, and say they hope it will 'obtain justice' for their daughter.
In a statement on Twitter, they said: "Our family are unable to comment on civil action at this time.
"We can, however, confirm we are doing this to obtain justice for our adored daughter, Emily."
According to The Scottish Sun, Milligan intends to defend the action - meaning he denies responsibility.
Mum, Fiona, said: "This is to show Emily isn’t responsible for her death."
We told you last year that Fiona said the legal treatment of Milligan shows the impact of abuse on someone's mental health is not taken seriously enough.
She said at the time: "Universities are dragging their heels in accepting students can be vulnerable and they are responsible.
"Mental health is always bottom of the agenda, especially in universities."
