A WILMSLOW man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in Handforth.

The 43-year-old man was arrested in Weaverham Way, Handforth, at around 4am yesterday, Sunday.

Shortly before he was arrested officers found a woman’s body at an address on Meriton Road in Handforth.

Formal identification has yet to be completed but the woman is believed to be a local 55-year-old.

Her family have been informed of the discovery and are currently being supported by specialist officers.

The 43-year-old man has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Crewe Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday.

A 51-year-old man from Wilmslow was also arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the incident. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

No further action will be taken regarding a 57-year-old man from Handforth who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police had been called to the address in Meriton Road around 3am on Sunday, following up on concerns for the woman's health.

Det Supt Sarah Pengelly said: “Understandably the local community will be concerned about what has happened.

“I would like to reassure local residents that at the current time this appears to be an isolated incident.

“We have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance, and anyone with any concerns should speak to an officer.”
