Why should I watch..?

After their exploits in the FA Vase last season, when they were eliminated agonisingly at the semi-finals stage, Vics are hoping to make an impact in another national knockout competition.

They have home advantage against former North West Counties League rivals Silsden, who were switched to the Northern Counties East League following a reshuffle of the National League System in May.

Like Vics, the Cobbydalers have a first win of the campaign to their name already.

Steve Wilkes’ side were lifted by a 1-0 victory against Congleton Town in midweek when Ryan Winder’s second-half strike separated the teams.

They would love a repeat on Saturday.

What they’ve said

"It’s so important for us to go into the weekend on the back of a positive result and there is some relief that comes with that.

“Had we lost both of our opening games, then we would already be under pressure and nobody wants that at such an early stage of the season.

“We know we can get better, but it was a big boost to confidence to beat Congleton.”

Steve Wilkes, Northwich Victoria manager

"Northwich knocked us out of the FA Vase and beat us in the league at their place.

“They were very good; in my opinion they were a class above.

“But we know how important the FA Cup is in terms of status, exposure and momentum as well as financially too.”

Danny Forrest, Silsden manager

Numbers game

Vics had the better of Silsden last season, scoring seven goals and winning two of the three meetings between the teams

Man to keep an eye on

Matty Clarke

The versatile midfielder was time and again the man for the big occasion last season and he was among Vics’ better performers during a narrow midweek win against Congleton Town.

They will again look to his drive from the centre of the pitch for inspiration against opponents they know well.

Vics team news

Jack Fleming (stomach) and Rob Doran (hamstring) are injury doubts, while Joel Brownhill is on holiday.

Full-back Rob Henry has arrived from Lancaster and has been registered in time, while the same applies to attacker Jorome Slew.

Meanwhile Buxton have granted permission for midfielder Eddie Toner to play.

However work commitments rule out Darryhl Mason.
