A unique treasure hunt is set to take place around Birkenhead today.

Organised by Mersey Royal FC, the third annual treasure chase will take place on Saturday, August 10 from 10am to 5pm and the main sponsor is Susan C Porter Funeral Directors.

To take part all you have to do is like 'Mersey Royal FC' and look out for a post about club chairman Darrell Karissa's whereabouts.

The clock will then countdown for 15 minutes, if you find him, you must go up and say 'Mersey Royal make my day'.

Only three to five people get one prize each at one destination with only one prize per person allowed and one prize per family/group.

The event is free to take part and aims to build community spirit while raising the profile of local businesses.

This year the top prize is £150 cash, with others including Liverpool and Everton match tickets, hair and beauty vouchers, cakes, meals, 1-2-1 training courses, nightclub packages, sports shop vouchers plus much more.

Darrell told the Globe: "We're a football club in the North End of Birkenhead and have been going since 1946. Our goal over the next five years is to have a team for every age group and gender.

"Every year we arrange charity events and charity walks to raise cash to send children with serious illnesses on holiday with their families.

"The second thing we do is the treasure hunt.

"Its aim is to create a fun family day to celebrate Birkenhead.

"We want to champion all our little shops and businesses, promoting local people and bringing the community together.

"Mersey Royal FC gets nothing from this. It's free to enter and it's just a freebie day.

"Thanks to local businesses and their kind donations this is a free activity to try build some community spirit and raise the profile of local businesses.

"So get out with friends and family and enjoy yourself!"
