The death was initially treated as unexplained but following a Home Office post mortem it is now a murder investigation.

It happened on the same road as the murder of Garry Newlove.

Floral tributes have been left outside the address.

One read: "Thank you for always being there and thank you for the memories.

"We shared so many laughs."

Forensics teams at the scene

Detective inspector Sarah Oliver, of Cheshire Police's Major Investigation Team, said: “The investigation is in its very early stages and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened.

“We have officers in the area to provide reassurance to the community and anyone with any information or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.”

An online portal has been set up specially for this investigation where people can anonymously provide police with information - Cheshire Police say it is very important that people use it as it is 'very useful' for officers working on the case.

This can be found at https://mipp.police.uk/

Alternatively information on the investigation can be provided by calling Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 476959 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
