WARRINGTON Foodbank has received a generous donation as kind-hearted staff at Golden Square Shopping Centre collected tons of food and baby essentials.

Summer at Warrington Foodbank can be a difficult time of year due to school breakfast and lunch clubs not being available to families, and the shopping centre team collected must-have items to try combat poverty and hunger in the area.

Staff gathered large amounts of important items to make up the large donation, including bottles of cordial, tinned food, crackers, nappies, baby wipes, sanitary products, sweets, coffee and laundry capsules.

Ian Cox, centre director at Golden Square Shopping Centre, said: “Supporting Warrington Foodbank is something that is really important to us here at Golden Square.

"We do a great appeal with shoppers each Christmas and our staff has continued to collect essential items for the summer.

"This time of year can be as much of a struggle as Christmas when it comes to families in need of extra food as schools cannot provide what they usually would during term time, so we really like to do our part to ensure the foodbank is well stocked for people in the area.”

David McDonald, manager of Warrington Foodbank, said: “Golden Square Shopping Centre held a tremendous food drive over the last Christmas period to help Warrington Foodbank.

"I am delighted that they have once again been able to help us through the summer months when the larger donations are not as forthcoming as at Christmas time.

“Golden Square has become a special partner with us and we thank them for the food drive, the massive donation and the amount of work which the staff have done in achieving this superb donation.”
