A UNIQUE social action project aims to highlight charities to young people who may need their services but are unaware of where to go.

The idea to bring Warrington’s youth community together arose after a group of 16-18-year olds collaborated to form WarringtonAsOne.

The group met through the NCS summer scheme, and aim to provide a safe space to young people and show they aren’t alone.

In their project, WarringtonAsOne are collecting patchworks from different charities, with their logos and contact details, and creating a huge colourful tapestry.

Sasha Walker, a member of the cohort, said: “We decided to make a tapestry because we thought that not enough young people are aware of what support is available to them.

“Our tapestry shows that there is diversity in Warrington, however we all come together as a community.

“The sizes are all different and unique to each charity.

“Each patchwork represents the aims of each charity.

“The patchwork is made by hand, by young people for young people. “

When completed, the piece will be presented at the Junction Gym, Buttermarket Street in the town centre so residents in Warrington can observe.

More than 20 charities and organisations, such as St Rocco’s Hospice, Warrington Foodbank, and Warrington Speak Up have got involved in the patchworks.

Others have shown support through donations.

Emma Green, owner of The Embroidery Emporium, located in Cockhedge Shopping Centre, stated: “We provided as many embellishments as we could fit in a bag for them and Changing Lives in Warrington donated three black bags of fabric.

“Even though we’re a charity ourselves we will always do what we can to help those who need it.”

After being displayed at Junction Gym on Buttermarket Street in the town centre, the tapestry will be moved to the Youth Zone, at The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Centre, Great Sankey.
