YOUNG flower fan Leah Brown is hoping her latest giant sunflower will beat last year's monster.
The nine-year-old from Knutsford grew a number of sunflowers last year with the help of her dad Warren.
One reached a height of 14 feet, which Leah hopes to beat this year.
This year's flower has already reached 13 feet
Warren said: “Last year with my help Leah decided to attempt to grow a few sunflowers.
“Little did we know at the time that one of them was going to grow to 14 feet tall.
“After drying the seeds from last year’s monster sunflower we have again grown one in the same place, which is almost 13 feet tall and still growing, although the head this year doesn’t look like it will be as big as last year’s.
“My partner Nichola and I wanted to add sunflowers to our already colourful garden, and Leah was looking forward to getting involved from the beginning, so we ordered a few different types of seeds off the internet and it went from there.
“Leah helped us plant them into the ground once we had grown them to about 10cm and has helped with the plant feed and putting the canes in to support them, although its hard when they get as tall as the big one has.
“Everyone who walks past when we are in the garden comments on how lovely it is, and how they are amazed by the sunflowers we grow.”
Leah and Warren grew between eight and 10 sunflowers last year, and are growing five different types this summer.
