A refuge centre was set up at Poynton Civic Hall while a number of road closures were put in place.

Firefighters and police officers worked through the night to get to those in need , particularly vulnerable people in the community.

This morning, emergency services confirmed that the localised flooding affecting parts of Cheshire has largely subsided.

There have been no reports of casualties, but a number of properties and roads have been affected.

The majority of roads have now reopened, although motorists are advised to drive with care as there is still a large amount of surface water in the area.

Some roads are still closed and motorists are reminded to abide by all road closure signs.
