COMMUTERS have faced travel chaos this morning, Wednesday as Northern train services left passengers stranded at Warrington Central Station.

With no direct services currently running between Bank Quay and Manchester Piccadilly due to rail works, services from Warrington Central are expected to be slightly busier.

However, only two-carriage trains have been arriving at the station this week which left many passengers stranded, unable to get on trains which arrive already full.

Gregory Pierssene said: "At Warrington Central this morning at 7.39am, I couldn’t get on the train as this train had two carriages and many of us couldn’t get on. Even the guard was squashed there."

Adrian Jones Tweeted: "@northernassist @AndyBurnhamGM Just two carriages on 7.38am Warrington to Mcr Oxford Road. Scores of people left behind on platform. Don't bother with the generic reply about new fleet as there is no evidence of any service improvement occurring. Pathetic."

Northern replied to another complaint about the busy service. They said: "We put on as many carriages as we can.

"The planning team allocate carriages each day but the number of available carriages can change due to maintenance, disruption or alterations."

Ben Wakerley tried to get on the 8.45am service from Warrington Central which was also overcrowded.

He Tweeted: "Off to next commercial meeting at @Transport4North only just squeezed on a 30 year old two car @northernassist train. £28. Isn’t sufficient capacity or good enough conditions & makes business in the north less do-able."

Members of our Warrington Guardian Travel and Traffic Facebook group commented on how today's disruption caused them to miss two connecting trains, calling the chaos a 'health and safety risk'.
