PEOPLE went quackers for the charity duck race in Ellesmere Port this year.
Organised by the town’s rotary club it raised a whopping £1,600 for local charities including The Port Grocery and Passion for Learning.
The Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Michael Edwardson, kicked off proceedings by throwing 860 plastic ducks into Basin at The Holiday Inn Centre Island in the Port.
As the Sea Cadet Band played ’We are Sailing’, the town’s fire service kindly provided the hose pipe water to move the ducks towards the finish line.
Firefighters also used the opportunity to give the public a display of their life-saving raft skills during the event, which took place on Sunday, July 14.
Event organiser and Rotarian Gordon Vickers said: “It was a very successful event. A big thank you to everyone who took part and supported us.
“The club is very committed to raising further events for much needed local charities.”
