TRIBUTES have been paid to former primary school caretaker John Cunliffe.

The popular dad and Beamont Primary School caretaker appeared in the obituaries column of this week's Warrington Guardian after he passed away aged 77.

Mr Cunliffe was born in Billinge near Wigan and had lived in Wigan, Irlam and Warrington.

He served with the 14th and 20th King’s Hussars and was employed by Irlam Steelworks, as a hairdresser, Whitecross Wire Works, finishing as school caretaker at Beamont Primary School in Orford from 1976 to 1997.

He enjoyed fishing and holidays abroad and was particularly proud of the bungee jump he did over Victoria Falls while on a three-month expedition in Kenya with his wife Ruth.
