A RESIDENT has described the ‘horrific’ scenes as firefighters bravely tackled a fire after a house was struck by lightning.

A storm hit many parts of the UK in the early hours of the morning and at 2.03am firefighters were called after a bolt of lightning struck a house in Geneva Road and caused a fire.

A thunder and lightning storm hit many parts of the UK early this morning

One resident was out with his son at the time to take pictures of the storm and after seeing the emergency service vehicles they went to investigate.

Alan Cook said: “My son is a photographer and we were out getting pictures and we went to Meadow Bank to get a better view.

“On our way back home we saw all the flashing blue lights so we went to see what was going on and before we knew it all we could see was thick black smoke.

“It was horrific to watch. There were three fire engines there and a cherry picker and they were blasting two hoses through the roof which had been damaged by the fire.

“It looked like it had gone out for a minute but it reignited quickly after it. The fire spread across the roof onto the next house so that was damaged as well.”

A spokesperson for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called to a fire in a domestic property in Winsford after it was hit by lightning.

"Firefighters, four wearing breathing apparatus, used four covering jets and two hose reel jets to fight the fire which was in the roof of the building.

Northwich Guardian:

Nobody was hurt during the fire

"Everyone has been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.

"Crews are still in attendance dampening down the property."

A GoFundMe page has now been setup for the homeowners. To donate visit the website.

The page was set up by resident Lisa Fallon.

Lisa, on the fundraising page, said: "As a community I think it would be nice to help in any way to the poor people who’s house was hit by lightning last night in Winsford.
"Luckily no one was hurt but damage and valuables have been damaged."
Please let’s help in any way we can to help them get back on there feet with repairs, furniture etc."
