THE Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub is competing for a £10,000 cash prize in the National Lottery Awards.

Shortlisted in the Best Sport Project category, they beat off stiff competition from more than 700 organisations to reach the public voting stage in this year’s awards.

The awards celebrate the inspirational people and projects who do extraordinary things with the help of National Lottery funding.

The project with the most votes will be crowned the winner and receive a £10,000 cash prize, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded glittering awards ceremony to be broadcast on BBC One in November.

The facility is the first UK dementia-friendly hub, boasting a library, fitness suite, sports hall, and Garden Spa.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director at LiveWire, said: “We are very delighted to learn that The Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub has been shortlisted as a finalist in the sport category in the 25th Birthday National Lottery Awards.

"National Lottery funding played a key role in the redevelopment of Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, a facility that is bringing huge health and wellbeing benefits to local people already, and will continue to do so for many years to come.

"We hope the public will vote for Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub as it would mean so much to us, and those who use Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, to receive this award.”

Cllr Tony Higgins, cabinet member for leisure and community at Warrington Borough Council, added: “It’s great news that the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The Hub is a fantastic symbol of what can be achieved with the support of National Lottery Funding – delivering first-class, inclusive community facilities which make a huge difference to people’s lives.

"Our investment in the hub – one of the first such facilities globally to achieve dementia-friendly status – is part of our work to create new opportunities for people to get active, discover a new hobby and improve their wellbeing.

"It’s already a tremendous asset for the north of Warrington, with something for everyone. Winning this award would be the icing on the cake."
