A PERSON has been airlifted to hospital following a serious road traffic collision on the A591.
The road remains closed in both directions between Grasmere and Keswick due to the incident, which involved two vehicles, near The King's Head Inn, Thirlmere, and Wythburn turn off.
The A591 at Thirlmere is closed in both directions whilst Emergency Services deal with a RTC.

A spokesman from the Great North Air Ambulance said: "We were called at 11.46am and were on the scene in 20 minutes.
"Two doctors and a paramedic were on board.
"One patient was airlifted at 1pm to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle."
A spokeswoman from the North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 11.35am this morning and attended with an air ambulance, three ambulances, two advanced paramedics and one rapid response vehicle.
"Three patients were taken to hospital, one of which was taken to a major trauma centre with serious injuries."

Drivers are being asked to use an alternative route.

According to Stagecoach the bus service 555 is unable to reach Keswick at the moment and until the road re-opens it will terminate at Grasmere.
