A CHARLES Darwin Primary School pupil has braved the shave for charity – inspired by his favourite YouTuber.

Alfie Murphy, who is in Year 3, cut his long locks in front of the whole school on Thursday, July 18, to be donated to children who lose their hair while undergoing cancer treatment.

Alfie had grown his hair for around 18 months to emulate ‘iBallistic Squid’ a gamer who live streams his virtual adventures on YouTube.

Northwich Guardian:

Alfie has been an avid follower of Squid – real name David Spencer – since meeting him at a convention in Manchester, and was inspired by the YouTuber’s charitable act.

His mum, Sophie, said: “As soon as Alfie realised Squid had a ponytail and saw that his hair was long, he said he wanted to grow it too.

“That was about 18 months ago, and recently we saw on Squid’s Instagram that he had cut it for the Little Princess Trust.

“I showed Alfie, and straight away he said ‘I want to do the same thing’. With everything that we have read about the Little Princess Trust, he has said it just makes it even more special.”

The whole school supported Alfie’s efforts, with voluntary donations on Thursday to take part in a dress-down and ‘crazy hair’ day.

Teachers and children gathered in the hall as Sophie picked up the clippers and cut Alfie’s locks.

She said: “He has done so well to go through with it and I am so proud of him.”
