A FREE event inspired by escape room challenges is offering an exciting new opportunity for young people in Winsford.

The innovative event has been created by an enthusiastic group of young teenagers taking part in the Winsford Hope Project.

The action game will test the skill and ingenuity of youngsters as they work in teams to discover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks.

Teams will be working against the clock in one or more rooms to progress and accomplish a specific goal.

The unique challenge is open to all teenagers and is inspired by historical artefacts from West Cheshire Museum Service.

The games will be held at Winsford Lifestyle Centre on Thursday, August 1,

Cllr Louise Gittins, leader of the council and cabinet member for wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This action-packed challenge promises to be a lot of fun. This is a wonderful way for teenagers to engage with other teenagers and for their interests and ‘voices’ to be heard.

“The aim of the Winsford Hope Project is to engage young people and incorporate their ideas and interests into local museums. "They are supported by arts and heritage youth workers who are on hand to channel ideas and teach new skills. It is a great way to make new friends, have fun and get an art qualification.”

The Winsford Hope Project is part of Hope Street, a Heritage Fund-sponsored initiative led by Curious Minds, the Preston-based arts and education organisation, in partnership with Cheshire West Museum Services, Youth Focus North West and Museum Development North West.

To join in the fun, advance booking must be made at tinyurl.com/canyouescapehistory or by calling the Lion Salt Works on 01606 275066.

Hope Streets is part of a five-year project that seeks to revolutionise the way that museums connect with young people. The plan is that it will act as a catalyst to recruit young people to take on leadership roles, along with participating museums, in the organisation.
