AN exhibition of 1930s–style rail posters showcasing the destinations along the Mid Cheshire Line comes to Weaver Hall Museum tomorrow, Tuesday.

The 14 'Marvellous Days Out' posters depict stations along the line, from Manchester to Chester via Northwich.

The touring exhibition created by Chester-based artist Nicky Thompson, and sponsored by the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, is open every day except Monday in the London Road museum until Sunday, August 18.

Based on the work of Frank Henry Mason, the exhibition was first launched at the Lion Salt Works by Pete Waterman in August 2017.

Since then, these Marvellous Days Out posters for the Mid Cheshire Line have achieved international success with hundreds of copies sold across the UK and beyond.

John Hulme – author of Marvellous Days Out on the Mid Cheshire Line, which complements the exhibition – said: “As a trustee of the Friends of Weaver Hall Museum, I am so pleased that we could bring the railway art exhibition back to Northwich.

“It is a great reminder of the many places we can take the train for a marvellous day out from our local Mid Cheshire railway stations.

“With it being so easy to travel far and wide these days, we often forget what is on our own Cheshire doorstep.

“The poster of Northwich which depicts the Anderton Boat Lift and Lostock Gralam that shows the Lion Salt Works at Marston is also a great reminder of somewhere to take our children and grandchildren during the school holidays.

“When it started in 2017 as a single poster to promote the Lion Salt Works in Northwich nobody expected it to develop into a campaign for the whole of the Mid Cheshire Line and achieve international acclaim.”
