A DRIVER had a lucky escape when a car ploughed into a hedge and flipped over in Winsford.

The black BMW was left lying on its side on the pavement.

Police say the driver has been found safe and well.

The crash woke residents on Rookery Rise at 11pm on Sunday night.

"We heard a loud juddering noise, said John Malam, who heard the collision as he was reading in bed.

"My instinct was to get ladders, climb up and see if I could get into the driver's side of the car.

"I expected to see the driver trapped inside but there was no-one there. The driver's window was down so he had obviously managed to clamber out. The keys were still in the ignition."

Residents say the police were at the scene in minutes and a recovery vehicle removed the damaged car.
