FEARS of catastrophic climate changes has increased support for urgent action to be taken, say campaigners.

Extinction Rebellion Cheshire had a stall at Winsford Town Park's first birthday celebrations on Saturday and were inundated with people seeking information.

More than 1,000 people enjoyed a feast of music, entertainment, games and activities amid a carnival atmosphere.

Winsford GP Dr Kathy Fallon, who took part in the Extinction Rebellion protest in London, said: "The fete was a huge success. We spoke to lots of interested people who were very concerned about the climate crisis, rising temperatures and the sixth mass extinction which is unfolding.

"Our climate wish tree attracted a lot of attention."

The mum-of-two has gathered support for the campaign to protect the planet from climate change.

ER Cheshire says its membership is continuing to grow and is calling on more residents to get involved.

Their next meeting is at 8pm this evening, Tuesday, July 2 at St Joseph's Parish Centre, Woodford Lane in Winsford.

Campaigners have set up working groups to raise awareness.
