POLICE are appealing for help to identify a "Good Samaritan" who came to the aid of man who had been stabbed and beaten at a Wirral playing field.

Officers were called to Plymyard Fields, Eastham, at around 9.20pm, on Monday, after a gang jumped out a black car and struck the victim around head with a blunt instrument before stabbing him twice in both shins.

A passing motorist stopped and helped by telephoning his brother who collected the victim and took him home.

A police spokesman said: "Unfortunately the victim didn't get the details of the motorist who helped him and now we'd like to track him or her down in case they can help with our continued investigations."
