A GROUP of musicians from Winsford have joined together to put on a pop-up festival this weekend to save the town’s music venue.

The Luka State’s Conrad Ellis and Sam Bell will headline the free festival on Sunday at The Red Lion, with a line-up of 11 other acts.

From midday, music from The Purpletones, Keeley Cheswick, Christie Bratherton, Trish Watt, Chris Howarth, Robyn Feast, Hanami Family, Mark Curzon, Marooned, The Grey Skys, Evan Kirwan, and Conrad and Sam, will entertain crowds in the hope of raising money for The Hive.

The Hive is a community benefit scheme looking to raise enough money to reopen Winsford’s De Bees as a community hub and music venue.

With the end-of-the-month deadline to raise £150,000 looming, local bands and musicians who have graced the stage at De Bees have come together to help save the town’s music venue in the best way they can.

Conrad said: “This community is under threat, if we lose our home base and the town's only venue Winsford will lose the beating heart of our music scene, it's that important.

“It's just one thing we could do to show Winsford our face and the passion we all have for saving our venue and making sure the scene lives on for generations to come.

“It's not about now it's about future it's about the kids. They need somewhere all those musicians who are going to be with us soon, it's about them, not us – it’s about the future."

Conrad also teased that The Luka State will be holding a secret guerrilla gig ‘somewhere around the bottom roundabout’ at 5.30pm.
