THE Grange School has handed over a cheque for £80,000 to a childhood cancer charity, after its 'Strictly' event in support of a student who beat the disease.

Molly Chapman, who goes to the junior school in Hartford, was diagnosed with cancer after finding a malignant rhabdoid in her neck two years ago.

The family's life was turned upside down, but after eight months of intense treatment – including chemotherapy and proton beam therapy in America – Molly responded well and has now been stable for 15 months.

In support of her bravery, the Grange School Parent Association decided to put on a Strictly Come Dancing-style event to raise money for children in similar positions.

Hosted by the BBC's Tom Fordyce and Sarah Jayne Dunn, the glitzy event at the Mere Resort in Knutsford attracted 350 people in April.

Dancers – including junior school head Guy Rands and deputy Anna Evans – were selected based on the highest individual bids, and a panel of judges was appointed.

Despite the pressure and a few nerves on the night, the dancers wowed the audiences with their spirited efforts at various dances, having trained with professional dancers at the Cadmans Dance Centre.

As well as the dancing, guests enjoyed a buffet meal and were entertained with an auction, with all proceeds going to The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, which supports affected families.

At the end of the night, the Glitter Ball trophy was handed to Anna Evans and her dance partner Alex Whyatt for their sizzling salsa.

The runners up, who danced a lively jive, were Helen Gunn and partner Lewis Crowder.

Hari Notay from the GSPA said: “It was a fabulous evening that was made memorable by the generosity of everyone involved from the dancers, donators of items to auction and the organising team.

"Thank you to everyone who had a part in the smooth running of the function. The amount we raised for GKCT was just unbelievable.”

Northwich Guardian:

The total amount raised was £81,940.83 in support of the real worthy winners of the event – Molly and the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.
