A KEEN cyclist has tackled an epic 400km charity bike ride along the coast of Portugal which has raised more than £65,000 for children and adults with cancer.

Anthony Bullock, operations director of transport and distribution firm S Cooper and Sons in Winsford, was one of 46 riders who completed the gruelling, three-day ride from Faro to Lisbon.

The Man o’ War Tour was the latest annual charity challenge for the TIP Fat Bottomed Boys and Girls, a cycling team made up of staff from transport and logistics companies across the UK.

Anthony said: “The Man ‘o’ War Tour was the toughest but most memorable of them all, so this group of 2019 will always be remembered as a determined team of incredible battlers who remained good humoured and positive throughout.

“I’m a keen cyclist but the 20 to 30mph Atlantic winds certainly made this the most challenging three-day event I’ve ever undertaken.

“Everyone rose to the challenge though and helped raise a fantastic amount for the two charities so there was plenty of gain for our pain.

“The TIP Fat Bottomed Boys and Girls have now raised more than £300,000 in the past six years, which is a magnificent effort.”

This year’s beneficiaries are cancer charity, the Christie Charitable Fund, in Manchester and the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, in Stoke-on-Trent, which will share the proceeds from the bike ride.

Nigel Parkes, managing director of Wolverhampton-based Pallet Track, said: “Congratulations to Anthony and everyone else who was involved in this incredible challenge.

“It’s always uplifting to see our members taking part in such inspiring events and helping raise funds for such great causes, which is why we were delighted to make a donation of our own for this Man o’ War tour.”
