WIRRAL babies and toddlers will be taking part in a sponsored fancy dress swim to raise cash for research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Members of Water Babies Chester & Wirral will dress as Peppa Pig pirates and princesses during their weekly swimming class to take part in a 'Splashathon' fundraiser on Sunday, June 30 at 11am at Stanley School.

Across the country 50,000 Water Babies are hoping to raise £1m for charity Tommy's.

Tommy's funds four research centres in the UK that investigate causes and find treatments for miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Franchisee of Water Babies Chester & Wirral, Emma Adams told the Globe: “At Water Babies Chester & Wirral we are all really excited to be taking part in the Tommy’s Splashathon.

"We are aiming to raise £40,000 and £1m nationally and give the boys and girls a really exciting class whilst the children fundraise to save other babies’ lives."

In 2017 the Splashathon event raised £1.175m - enough to run Tommy's National Miscarriage Research Centre for two and a half years.

Cash raised from this year's event will fund a new centre dedicated to ensuring the best maternity care is available to every parent.

Chief executive of Tommy’s Jane Brewin said: “Splashathon is a great way for mums and dads to involve their little ones in a good cause.

"Tommy’s relies on the generosity and hard work of its supporters; Water Babies and their clients have supported Tommy’s for 13 years helping us to pioneer research to make pregnancy and birth safer for mums and babies.

"We hope everyone taking part has an amazing time!”
