THERE was a large crowd in Appleton Thorn on Saturday for one of the most traditional events of the summer.
Bawming the Thorn took place at lunchtime.
It saw groups take part in a parade through the village before the service by the thorn tree outside St Cross Church.
Youngsters from Appleton Thorn Primary School then took part in a dance around the tree.
The Appleton Thorn tree is said to be a descendant of the famous Glastonbury Thorn (said to have sprung from Christ’s crown of thorns) planted in 1178 by the lord of the manor, Adam De Dutton.
Chloe Bentham was the Page on the day and William Griffiths played the Knight.
