SKATERS are making the most of a new facility at a Greenbank play area, following years of campaigning.

The pump track has been installed at Saxons Lane, offering a place to go for wheeled sports including skateboarding, BMX, scooters, and inline skating.

Among those involved in the Cheshire West and Chester Council project was Ross Milne, of the Skatepark for Northwich campaign.

The group got involved in the design phase, and helped out with overseeing construction when required.

Northwich Guardian:

Ross said: “We hope that it benefits the immediate locals of Saxons Lane first and foremost, but also the wider residents’ base of Northwich and surrounding are.

“Hopefully it will introduce youngsters to the joys of wheeled sports. These kind of parks are good on a social level by bringing like-minded people together to share their passion.”

As well as John Seiler at CWAC, the campaign has had ongoing support from Northwich Town Council, including clerk Chris Shaw and Cllr Andrew Cooper.

Work was carried out by Dunkil Developments Ltd.

The campaign group maintains hopes of getting new skatepark provision as part of the town council’s Verdin Park regeneration.

Ross said: “We would like to thank Northwich Town Council for their positive outlook on getting a proper skatepark for the town, but as with many things, it’s all down to cost and getting funding.

Northwich Guardian:

“We will pursue to highlight our campaign to members of the public, in the hope that we can get enough backing to get the funds needed.

“We want to get a park that fits in with the regeneration of Northwich, that is future proof in design, modern and offer areas that suit all abilities, giving scope for users to keep improving their abilities.”
