CHILDREN are hoping to entice hedgehogs into their new wildlife sanctuary.
Pupils at Darnhall Primary School in Winsford have created a new woodland wonder area in their grounds on Sandyhill Road to try and save this endangered species.
Nearly a quarter of hedgehogs born die before leaving their next and half of the rest do not survive their first hibernation.
Wild life experts say that providing a safe environment will help to preserve their numbers.
Children have teamed up with students from Warrington and Vale Royal College who have crafted hedgehog houses.

Headteacher Sarah Tomlinson said: "The students at the college are part of a multi-skills course and have been learning woodwork.
"They designed and made our woodland wonder area some hedgehog houses as a gift to the children so we can encourage wildlife."
