Alderley District Scouts 'thrilled' to lead county parade

Musicians from the Alderley District Scout Band, a traditional youth marching band, took pride of place alongside the Alderley Scouts at the front of the annual County Scout Sunday parade, which took place on Sunday.

Every Scouting section across the 10 Cheshire district paraded through Chester with their colours or flags flying high before attending a special service in the cathedral.

Young people performed at the service, which this year had the theme of inclusivity, under the heading of ‘Scouting is for everyone’, and the readings were led by Canon Precentor Jeremy Dussek.

As well as local and county Scouting groups, the parade welcomed members of the infant and world Scout Jamboree.

Alderley District Commissioner, David Giles, said, “We were thrilled that our district had the honour of leading the parade this year, which is one of the most important events in our calendar.

“We were so pleased that so many attended the parade and so many well-wishers turned out to cheer us on.

“As always, we rely on the support of our team of volunteers to enable events like these to take place and we would encourage anyone interested in becoming a Scouting leader in future to get in touch.”

The young people attending the parade from the Alderley District are Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Alderley Edge, Handforth, Holmes Chapel, Lindow and Wilmslow.

The young people who performed in the service were all from Holmes Chapel, and were Tabitha Gilchrist, Evie Rigden, Elizabeth Thompson, James Lambourne and Henry Forrest.

One of the challenges that the Scout Movement faces is finding more volunteers to plug the current gap.

There are nearly 38,000 young people on waiting lists as more young people want to experience the adventure of Scouting.
