A LEVEL 3 apprentice bricklayer working with Build Skill Plus who work in partnership with Total People to deliver apprenticeships, won the Guild of Bricklayers Senior North West Regional Brickwork final.
Michael Hitchenson, won the award on Friday March 29 at the regional event, held at Preston College.
Entrants from 35 North West colleges and three training centres were invited to put forward their best bricklayer for the competition.
Michael’s win in the senior category means that he now qualifies for the national final, to be held at Liverpool College on June 20.
Michael’s employer, Carl Stafford, from Northwich said: “We are very pleased with the result. Our company obviously focuses on quality brickwork and this has been reflected in the result. We fully support Michael in the next phase of this exciting competition”.
The National Final will include nine Regional Champions from England in addition to the winners from Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Build Skills Plus Centre manager Mark Burgess said: “Both myself and Michael’s tutor Daniel Marshall were impressed by the pride he takes with his brickwork and attention to detail produced on the day. We are of course fully committed to supporting Michael for the National Final in June”.
