PLANS are in place for the second ‘Fiesta on the Field’ event in the Middlewich Cricket Club.

The event runs from Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, July 14 with a variety of entertainment for visitors.

David Parry, chairman of the cricket club, said: “Last year’s inaugural summer event was discussed early in the year.

“After a massive effort by the committee, club members and volunteers we were able to organise and deliver a hugely popular and successful event.

“This was based around a beer festival with live music on Saturday evening followed by a large outdoor cinema screening on Sunday. Clearly the fantastic weather played its part in making it so successful.

“We decided that we had to follow up on that first event and started planning early this time.”

At the inaugural event in 2018, crowds were treated to a fun-filled family weekend with local bands, ‘Good for Gordon’, ‘Never Trust A Folkie’, ‘The Mallisons’ and ‘AD Cooke’ on Saturday, plus the showing of ‘The Greatest Showman’ and the World Cup Final on a 12 square metre screen on Sunday.

The event is used to raise funds for the cricket club and they were overwhelmed with the support last year.

The schedule for 2019 is the same with the beer festival on Saturday starting at 6pm after the second Middlewich cricket team’s match.

David said: “Just like last year we are looking to offer a wide selection of draught ales, lager and cider with a prosecco, gin and cocktails bar to hopefully meet all tastes.

“There will also be street food on sale from a variety of specialist vendors and the music line up is very exciting with three exceptional tribute acts starting with Abba, we’re proud to be presenting a Middlewich act, Tony Scarth as Tom Jones and Queen II.”

The outdoor cinema will return on Sunday with the family matinee performance being the remake of ‘Dumbo’ with gates opening at midday.

Later in the evening, with gates opening at 6pm, there will be a screening of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ with Rami Malek’s Oscar winning portrayal of Freddie Mercury.

Food and drink will again be on sale at both screenings.
