A TARGET set by Cheshire League rivals Haslington proved beyond Kingsley’s reach when they exited the Cheshire Shield on Sunday.

Chasing 259, they kept up with the required run-rate and remained optimistic during a fifth-wicket partnership worth 55 runs between Haris Yassin (34) and Toby Mullins (24).

However after the latter become one of Jack Moran’s three victims they quickly tumbled to 175 all out.

Charlie Loy (45 off 52 balls) was the pick of the Crofters’ batsmen at the top of the order, while captain Ben Stoddart (22 off 17 balls) scored quickly too.

Haslington had responded in exactly the way they wanted following a first defeat of the campaign in Division One the previous afternoon, running up 258-7 after they were put in.

Moran (68) and Jordan Sealey (33) added 103 runs together for the second wicket before Matthew Kennerley-Ryan (53no off) and Joseph Goodier (28no) put on 69.

Austin Smith (2-73) and Patrick Phelan (2-28) both claimed doubles while Loy (1-38), Ben Ainsworth (1-32) and Mullins, who took Moran’s wicket, chipped in too.
