A MUM-of-two is swapping tasty meals for refugee rations to show her support for those forced to flee their homes.

Carly Christie, who lives in Grappenhall, is taking part in the Ration Challenge, a sponsored event taking place between June 16 and 23 to help fund the work of charity Concern Worldwide (UK).

The 37-year-old explained: "I will be eating a close approximation of the rations provided to Syrian refugees in a refugee camp in Jordan, provided by Act for Peace."

Funds raised by sponsorship during the challenge will help Concern Worldwide provide refugees with food, medicine and education while showing them that others care about their situation.

Carly added: "I saw it originally on Facebook and considered it a few times before signing up due to the challenging nature of it.

"I'm doing it because I try to do a nice, altruistic thing every year that requires sponsorship.

"Last year I did the Race for Life- this year I'm doing this as it's completely different.

"Mainly though, this particular cause is something that has bothered me a lot when I watch the news and I wanted to be able to explain to my children about helping others and how some families are in this awful position through no fault of their own."

The Ration Challenge takes place during Refugee Week, a nationwide programme of events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to society, and encourages better understanding between communities.
