A CHESTER man was treated for burns to his hands following a fire in a bedroom last night.

Three fire crews attended the scene of the blaze at a terraced house on Meynell Place, Blacon, at around 7.05pm on Tuesday, May 7.

The firefighters - from the Chester, Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane stations - spent more than two hours making the property safe.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters, four wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets, a covering jet, a large fan and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire.

"One male casualty, who was suffering from burns to his hands, was treated by firefighters before the arrival of paramedics before he was later taken to hospital.

"Crews were at the scene for two hours and 15 minutes."

The Standard visited the scene this morning (Wednesday, May 8) but the family were too upset to talk about what happened.

A friend, Lisa Rose, has set up a fundraising page to help the family get back on their feet. She has also asked for donations of children's clothes and shoes to help out.
