A DRINK-DRIVER responsible for causing the failure of traffic lights on Chester’s busy Fountains Roundabout last month has failed to attend court.

A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of Michelle Ogden, 37, who crashed into the lights and electrical box in the early hours of Saturday, March 9.

The collision meant the lights were out of action for around five days, sparking a debate among locals about whether the roundabout was actually less congested and easier to negotiate without them.

Prosecuting at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday (April 29), Rob Youds said police had been alerted to a yellow Seat Ibiza which had crashed on the roundabout at 3.40am.

When officers arrived, a member of the public pointed them in the direction of Ogden who was sitting in her car.

They noted she was slurring her words and recorded 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath in roadside breath test. The legal limit is 35.

Ogden, of Holly Bank Caravan Park, Warburton Bridge Road, Rixton-with-Glazebrook, Warrington, was arrested after she received treatment by paramedics.

As she did not attend her hearing on Monday, the case was heard in her absence and magistrates found it proven. She will be sentenced at a later date.
