AN INSPIRATIONAL woman from Rock Ferry is hosting a groundbreaking fundraising event in a bid to break the stigma surrounding infertility.

Sinead Murray, 29, has suffered two devastating ectopic pregnancies and was told that she needed fertility treatment to have a baby of her own but does not qualify for NHS help because she has a step-son.

After campaigning and raising awareness for women who struggle to conceive or have suffered the loss of a baby, Sinead decided to hold an event to help break the stigma surrounding infertility by hosting an awareness day at Birkenhead Park Rugby Club.

The event, on Sunday, July 21 from 1pm, aims to raise awareness for everyone who is fighting the condition, already an IVF warrior or those who are continuing their fight to become parents.

There will be food, music, raffles, face painting, holistic treatment tasters, pop-up painting pottery stall plus many more in a bid to raise cash for Fertility Network UK.

Sinead told the Globe: "I do not meet criteria, after my second ectopic pregnancy in January and I have now lost both Fallopian tubes meaning it is medically impossible for me to get pregnant without full IVF treatment and a £5,000 cost.

"My GP recently applied for funding from the Wirral CCG, it was declined and due to an existing living child within the relationship and exceptional clinical circumstances was not demonstrated.

Wirral Globe:

"I posted the letter on my Instagram not due to the decline but rather the wording of the letter and how they couldn't even be bothered to state my name, just an initial.

"I had lots of messages from friends asking to help me find the money for my treatment I am very lucky that we have a great family who are willing to help us, but my heart broke for every other couple out there who will also receive this outcome due to very harsh, unfair guidelines and a postcode lottery.

"That was when I decided to hold a charity fun day for people to come along and stand together with everyone out there who are fighting for their right to become a mummy or daddy like me, or who have sadly lost a baby or even are going through IVF treatment and feel alone, isolated or embarrassed.

"I chose Fertility Network UK as they campaign for everyone in the UK and their right to treatment but also support throughout treatment."

In the UK alone it is believed that one in seven couples will struggle with fertility - 3.5m people in the country alone.

So Sinead hopes that this event will help bring down the barriers for others to achieve their dream of becoming parents.

She added: "I want to break the stigma surrounding infertility, although I hope to raise as much as I can for the charity I want a family fun day to show everyone deserves a family.

"We are more than just a statistic, a piece of paper, a number we are humans who need help and support to achieve something which should be so natural no matter what the circumstances of each individual case are.

"I have many other girls who are attending the day who are going through the same fight as me, or who have been blessed with miracle babies from IVF.

"I would like to take this opportunity also to thank everyone who has made it possible so far such as the club, people who have donated raffle prizes, offered to hold stalls on the day and also Amy Power who designed the poster."
