A MUM who bakes for celebrities became a star herself after BBC Radio 1 turned up at her bakery.

Mum-of-two Lisa Russett was chosen from 10,000 businesses across the country to feature in a live broadcast.

The 39-year-old won an award from the nationwide radio station for being one of the most fun and unique places to work in the UK.

"It was quite surreal," said Lisa, who only opened Pretty Princess Cakes and Bakes on Post Office Place in Northwich six months ago.

"Radio 1 was doing a nationwide tour of work places. You had to email to say why they should visit you and they had 10,000 applicants! They only visited 20 places from the whole of the UK."

Lisa, from Winnington, was inundated with messages from family and friends surprised to hear her being interviewed live on air by presenter Ariella Free.

"My business has been going so well, it's amazing," she said. "I've taken on six employees including my husband, Daryl."

Imaginative Lisa, who is originally from Widnes, nurtured a love for baking before she started school with her late nan Daisy Ince, who died aged 94.

"When I was little I baked with my nan, she taught me everything," said Lisa, who started her business baking cup cakes in the kitchen of her former home in Widnes. "I still use the recipe she gave me. I think she'd be very proud of me.

"The day I opened my bakery there were two little white feathers on the floor. I kept them and thought of her."

Celebrities and TV presenters have hired Lisa for special events and her cup cakes have featured in Vogue, OK and Now magazines as well as on BBC's Don't Tell The Bride and BBC Breakfast.

Lisa, crowned cupcake queen of Liverpool, has also baked for Beyonce's tour, made cakes for Jordan's hen party and reality stars Sam and Billie Faiers from The Only Way Is Essex.

The talented baker has also made christening cakes for Coronation Street's Alan Halsall's son and Helen Skelton's baby.

A lifelong dream to open her own bakery finally turned into reality when she spotted an ideal shop on a lane walkway between Sainsbury's and the library.

"It's something I always wanted to do," said Lisa, who turns 40 next month and has a daughter Abby and son Tyler. "My kitchen wasn't big enough and you never feel like you're out of work."

Lisa now creates her own unique waffles, crepes, milk shakes, freakshakes and smoothies and plans to instal an ice cream counter for the summer.

"I can't imagine how good it's been," she said. "We've taken our crepes, bubble waffles and warm cooking dough on the road to makers markets across Cheshire, Warrington and Congleton."

Lisa is excited to be taking part in three big festivals in the summer and various other outside events including an Indie festival in May.

New food businesses opening in Northwich, she believes, are helping to regenerate the town centre.

"I've always thought Northwich was on the up," said Lisa. "More little cafes and businesses that you would often only see in city centres are coming here. It brings more people in and is great for everyone.

"We are massively supporting each other and we all work together.

"It's hard to believe how I have come from baking cup cakes in my little kitchen in Widnes to being on BBC Radio 1"
