A PACKAGING company has teamed up with Winsford United Football Club to kick start an exciting project.

Coveris, which specialises in pioneering plastic packaging on Winsford Industrial Estate, is mounting a big litter pick around the soccer ground today, Friday.

This global firm is organising the clean-up as part of Earth Day on April 22, the world's biggest annual environmental protection event.

Since this campaign was launched in 1970, around 200 million people in more than 190 countries now take part.

Carl Quinn, from Coveris, said: "We're hoping to make a visual impact and keep this partnership going in the community.

"We want to make people aware of what plastics can do, how you can recover and recycle.

"We will be cleaning up the area around Winsford United, the park next door and other areas."

Coveris specialises in the design and manufacturing of innovative food packaging solutions.

Employees from the company will be working around Barton Stadium from 9am until 4pm today, Friday, April 12.

"We can educate," added Carl. "Earth Day was a small movement that started in America in 1970 to make a change for the local community.

"Some 49 years on, more than a billion people get involved in this event every year. It is everyone's responsibility."
