HIGH Legh residents are looking to work with groups such as Mid Cheshire Against HS2 and Culcheth and District Rail Action Group on how together they can stop HS2.

“It is now important for the whole community to come together and explore alternatives and to consider how we stop HS2 altogether,” said High Legh environmentalist Nigel Hennerley.

“We will be working together in the coming weeks and months to help shape a concerted effort to inform and lobby our MPs in government to reconsider HS2 plans.

“As an environmentalist it is clear to me after working with local residents’ groups and parish councils to shape consultation responses, that no amount of mitigation could ever make HS2 acceptable.

“It is well recognised across the north west that what we really need is to improve existing or previously discontinued rail and bus links and services in our region.

“This would improve people’s lives and as has been shown to provide better returns from the very costly HS2.

“The challenges we face come the mid 2030s will not be met by building HS2 using enormous amounts of concrete and steel that would provide no resilience to climate change and biodiversity loss.”
